CHRISTIAN SINGLES : GUIDE TO
ENDING LONELINESS AND DEPRESSION Cont.
Chapter 12. Steps To Take Now
15. Focus on your needs and be determined to fulfill them, one at a
time. Don’t wait until you FEEL like it; procrastination will win out
if you go by your feelings. Remember, your feelings (emotions) got you
into this quandary and you talked yourself into a state of hopelessness.
Now you have to talk yourself into taking steps, one at a time, to get
yourself out! Be determined that you will be proactive for your own
personal growth no matter how you feel! This is the way we enter into
worshipping the Lord. If we are feeling down, that’s the very time to
enter into His gates with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise.
You’ve seen it work at church; at first you feel that you can’t get
into it, but if you shower the Lord with praise, your feelings will fall
in step, as well as your heart. This is where your power comes from,
praising God. He inhabits the praises of His people, or He comes alive ,
mingling with you when you praise Him, either in church or at home. When
He is that close, healings happen!
16. Find self-help books about loneliness and depression. You may get
other insights from them. Consider journaling your ascent out of
loneliness and into a new life. This will cement your new way of
thinking and spur you on to greater victories.
18. “Adopt” a grandma or grandpa. Seniors who live alone love to
have visitors and they are good listeners. They also have more time to
spend with you.
19. Breathe deeply and slowly to reduce stress. Deep, rhythmic
breathing exercises can reduce stress and help you achieve a state of
relaxation. People with anxiety disorders and even patients who are
afraid to breathe deeply after surgery but need to promote coughing to
clear lungs do this. Even women during childbirth do breathing exercises
to relax, help control contractions and reduce pain.
