Chapter 28. Famous People Who Suffered
Loneliness And Depression
Depression And Despair Aboard A Shipwreck, But Paul Speaks
Hope
In Acts Chapter 27, Paul is traveling to Rome, along with other prisoners
to plead their cases. The weather was rough, and the water tempestuous, and
it appeared that they would all die at sea. All aboard were frightened,
depressed, and lost hope as things got worse for them by the day. But Paul
was filled with the Holy Spirit, and he was confident that nothing would
happen to them that was not in the will of God. (And that’s right where
Paul always wanted to be, In the center of God’s will! We can learn from
his brave confidence in the face of almost certain death, Christian singles,
that we need to be in the center of God’s will as we face hardships, and
the Lord will see us through.) Paul prayed and an angel appeared to him and
told him that he must stand before Caesar and that neither he, nor any of
the men aboard the ship would die. Paul was concerned for the safety of the
rest of the prisoners because in those days, they were often killed if their
guards feared they would run away.. The angel did say that the ship would be
destroyed. So Paul told the others what the angel said, and coaxed them to
eat, so they would have strength to escape the ship when the time came. When
they saw Paul eating, they followed his example.
