CHRISTIAN SINGLES : GUIDE TO
ENDING LONELINESS AND DEPRESSION Cont.
Chapter 10. Formerly Depressed, Lonely Hearts Want To Give You Tips
for Success
When I learned that there is power, both good and bad, in the words I
speak and the thoughts in my mind, I finally had a handle on my problem.
I hadn’t even realized that my negative thoughts were a habit I couldn’t
break. These words in Proverbs 18:21 shot through my soul when I first
heard them:
DEATH AND LIFE ARE IN THE POWER OF THE TONGUE!
I had already learned that God’s words in the Bible are alive, and
have power to heal and change lives, so I realized that those
destructive words I continued to speak about my life in times of
weakness were the same as a loaded gun! No wonder the prayers people
prayed over me didn’t last a week, before I went down, depressed and
beaten again. That habit had to be broken, and in time, I have gained
complete authority over it, by declaring, in the name of Jesus, that it
had to go. I also meditated on verses such as, “As a man thinks, so is
he” meaning that the thoughts we think about ourselves determines what
we are, glorious over- comers in Christ’s power, or defeated slaves to
our old sin nature.
My faith in Christ was strong, because He did many miracles for me,
and always helped me through hard times, sending Christians to give me
furniture, food or news of a job, just in the nick of time. I have been
able to support myself and children alone, since we were afraid to let
my ex -husband know where we were, because he threatened harm to me if I
ever asked for child support. The first miracle Jesus blessed me with
was instantly healing me of a 20 year smoking habit. I’d prayed for it
for months and nothing happened. People criticized me for not having the
power to quit by myself, but they didn’t know the demons I had to deal
with. But one day as I was reading my Bible, sitting alone in my home, I
suddenly felt the power of the Holy Spirit rise up in my lungs, causing
a warm, tingling sensation, and then it kept going up my throat and I
opened my mouth and breathed out and gasped for new breath. I knew
exactly what was happening because I’d seen friends healed of serious
health problems at church. Then a peace fell upon me, and I understood
that I was permanently delivered from smoking! This happened four years
ago, and I have never needed a cigarette again. After smoking 20 years,
two packs a day, you’d think I would have coughed up junk from my
lungs, but I never had to cough or deal with withdrawal. An X-ray of my
lungs showed no damage, and my doctor couldn’t believe I’d smoked
for 20 years! I could go on and on, because I could write even more
about getting to the root of my pain; healing of memories and the
helpful steps I tried, such as becoming a volunteer in a woman’s
crisis center, but I think the revelation about the power of my tongue
was the greatest, along with learning about living by faith not by
sight. I want to give my personal wishes to those who read this; may you
find peace and joy with our Lord, and a new life without depression. God
Bless You, Suzanne
