CHRISTIAN SINGLES : GUIDE TO
ENDING LONELINESS AND DEPRESSION Cont.
Chapter 10. Formerly Depressed, Lonely Hearts Want To Give You Tips
for Success
When Suzanne heard about my opportunity to share this free Guide with
a larger audience on christiandatemate.com, she wrote me with these
particular sections and Bible verses that really drove home the healing
power available to sufferers of loneliness and depression. Her insights
and first-hand experience may be just what you needed to light a fire
under you and get you moving! Everyone’s problems and success in
solving them will be a little different, so I called another person who
found, in my simple ideas, the answer to his long-standing depression as
well, and I will tell you what he said helped him the most. Then you
will see how they chose the suggestions that fit their own set of
painful symptoms the best, and how they carried through to a successful
recovery. I will follow-up with Mike’s testimony after Suzanne’s. I
want to protect their privacy, so I will not mention last names or
locations. Here is Suzanne’s praise report:
Thanks to our wonderful Lord, I have been set free from depression
and loneliness that made me wish (and even pray, sometimes) that the
Lord would just take me home. Now, I’m glad that He didn’t! Even
while I prayed that desperate prayer, I knew I had to stay here to raise
my two children, so I knew He would take it as a cry for help, not
really a solution to my anguish.
It might seem strange to other Christians who “have it all
together“ that sinking into the depths of depression could ever happen
to a strong believer, But it happened to me, gradually, over the years,
since my divorce from a husband who changed from a happy go lucky guy to
a monster, when he began drinking. No, he wasn‘t a Christian when I
married him, but I was backslidden, myself. Our two children convinced
me we had to get away from him because he was becoming more violent, so
we divorced and I moved away, hoping to leave my troubles behind.
Unfortunately, my troubles, low self-esteem, loneliness and depression
followed me. I went through some traumatic experiences and ran back to
Jesus, and I fell in love with Him all over again. Then I tried to stuff
my insecurities way down inside me, and tried to handle the hardship of
working and raising the kids by myself. Over time, these things would
rise up to the surface and I would ask for prayer and that would help
for awhile, but the depression persisted, because I had never thought I
needed to renew my mind, to take those painful thoughts captive. I just
tried to ignore them.
