Chapter 23 Self Sabotage; When You Shoot Yourself In The Foot!

Repressed anger needs special treatment, involving healing of memories, and that will require a chapter of it’s own. For the time being, you can tell the Lord that you want Him to search your heart with you, and reveal the roots of repressed anger. Ask Him to forgive, and heal old wounds so that you can be set free. Remember that you are a child of the King, no longer the enemy’s prey. Your mind and memories are not his playground, but the lessons learned from the hard times and pain of the past will be turned around and used to help others. But how does repressed anger gain a foothold, and later, a stranglehold? Often it begins in early childhood when your needs are not met, or when your play and exploration are thwarted by well-meaning parents or caregivers, as well as siblings. You may have grown up in a nurturing family and yet have felt rage which you couldn’t express because your screaming was upsetting to your family. Or your lack of nurturing may have resulted from a dysfunctional family, obviously a more traumatic situation, requiring greater healing of memories than the average person needs.
