Chapter 19. God, The Ultimate Healer
Instead, the patient could decide to be set free from chronic fear.
After praying for deliverance from fear, and forgiveness, he could go
to a church that believes God still heals and delivers His children
from all manner of destructive emotions and negative thoughts, and
request that the prayer team lay hands on him and deliver him from
fear (and any other harmful thought patterns.) If he doesn’t feel
close to the Lord, this is the perfect time to give his heart to God,
so that nothing prevents him from receiving full deliverance and
healing. The pastor can lead him through the Penitent’s prayer, also
called the Sinner’s prayer. Anyone can also reach out to God on
their own if they can’t get immediate help at a church. If this
describes your situation, there are no magical words that will bring
you into full fellowship with God, but only a heart that is hungry for
a personal, loving, intimate, relationship with the Lord. People have
prayed simple prayers of repentance and a need for help by crying out,
“Jesus, Help me!” Some have prefaced that by saying, “Jesus, if
you’re really the Savior and Healer of the world, help me! The
proper way to pray is to address the Father and begin by saying, “Heavenly
Father,” but in dire instances, these heart-felt prayers have
changed lives, and the penitent has found a peace that surpasses all
human understanding. If you want a prayer to read aloud to God you may
read this one word for word or say it in your own way, either way, to
gain freedom from sin and a new life with the Lord: (Christian
singles, if you want to rededicate yourself to the Lord please pray
this also) “Father in Heaven, please forgive my sins. I repent and
turn away from them now, understanding that You will help me grow in
the knowledge of your grace and forgiveness. I believe that your son,
Jesus paid the penalty for my sin at Calvary and that He rose from the
dead and is my counselor, high priest, savior and friend. Please fill
me with Your Holy Spirit, the Comforter, who will be with me to the
end, teaching me Your ways. I am yours and yours alone. I pray this in
the name of my Redeemer, Jesus, Amen. Now that your trespasses have
been forgiven and forgotten by God, thank the Lord! You have become a
new creation in Christ! Your past has been washed away and you have
become a new person, with great promise. The slate is clean and a
wonderful, amazing new life has begun! The Bible tells us when one
sinner (that includes all of us) comes to faith in Christ, all the
angels in Heaven rejoice, so you have just set off a celebration in
