CHRISTIAN SINGLES!
Chapter 24. Narcissism: “I Love Me, I
Love Me Not”
A note to Christian singles: Do you wonder if Grandma
has gone off her rocker with the title, “I love me, I
love me not”? No, I am referring to the old game we
girls used to play, half a century ago!! This may be new
to young singles, so I should explain that we would pick a
daisy and pull each petal off, alternating with “he
loves me” and the next petal with “he loves me not”
hoping that we end with the last petal making the desired
prediction, “He loves me.” O.K., it was pretty corny,
but we did a lot of corny things before TV became a
distraction. And since we were about 8 at the time, it
really didn’t matter because the object of our
affections didn’t know we existed! But we had more
foresight than our goofy, clueless male counterparts, and
knew they would come around to our way of thinking as we
matured, and sure enough, they did!
Now apply this old game to the narcissist; who love
only themselves, but it is a love-hate relationship they
have with themselves, which can be dicey at best, and an
all-consuming horror, coupled with violent mood swings in
the worst cases. These are driven by depression,
loneliness (because no one can stand them) and some highs,
(sort of like bi-polar sufferers, but psych drugs can help
the bi-polar patient stay on an even keel) unlike the
narcissist.
This disorder has no medical prescription, at least
none known to me. Narcissists refuse psychiatric help, and
have an aversion to medication for psychological problems,
mainly because they cannot see, or will not accept that
they are not normal. Part of their façade is appearing to
“have it all together,” and when rejected by family or
co-workers they blame the rift on them. This is easy
because narcissists feel only contempt for the vast
majority of people who do not accept them as superior
beings.(They do not suffer fools gladly!) Since most
narcissists refuse medical analysis, how do we reach the
conclusion that this may be their problem?
